A brazen human smuggling operation was foiled in south Texas when authorities caught a 27-year-old driver and his 15-year-old accomplice trying to sneak three Chinese nationals across the border. The teen was used as a driver on June 21, 2025, and the group was spotted near the Roma Observation Deck, a known pickup location.
As authorities closed in, the driver took off, leading to a high-speed chase that ended with multiple collisions. One of the aliens was left with a serious head laceration.
According to court documents, the 27-year-old driver, Lizandro Monroy, had recruited the minor to transport the smuggled aliens and provided them with a cell phone to receive instructions. Monroy was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release.
Monroy has a history of human smuggling, with two prior convictions. He was released from federal custody just a month before this latest incident.
