A deadly alien smuggling ring was busted in Texas when two of its members were sentenced to prison for their roles in a failed smuggling operation that left two people dead. Jerry Lee Anderson, 29, of Spring, and Orlin Wilfredo Padilla-Murillo, 25, an illegal alien from Honduras, were handed a combined total of over 29 years in federal prison.
According to court documents, the multi-agency investigation began in October 2022 after a failed smuggling event resulted in a single vehicle crash that killed a load driver and two illegal aliens, while seriously injuring two others. The four victims were confirmed to be from Mexico.
The investigation, led by ICE Homeland Security Investigations agents out of Del Rio, identified Padilla-Murillo and Anderson as co-conspirators after finding their phone numbers on the phones of several co-conspirators who participated in failed smuggling attempts. In one event, authorities stopped a pickup truck pulling a trailer that concealed 11 illegal aliens, while another stop discovered 10 illegal aliens inside a recreational vehicle near Brackettville.
The court records show that the smuggling operation was extensive, with multiple failed attempts and numerous illegal aliens being smuggled into the US. Anderson and Padilla-Murillo were found guilty of their roles in the operation and were sentenced accordingly.
