Palm Springs Bomber Support Case Rocks Washington State

A Washington state man has been arrested and charged with providing material support to the Palm Springs fertility clinic bomber. Daniel Jongyon Park, 32, of Kent, was taken into custody shortly after his flight from Poland landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Park is accused of shipping and paying for significant quantities of ammonium nitrate, an explosive precursor, to Guy Edward Bartkus, the 25-year-old California man who carried out the May 17 bombing. According to an affidavit, Park sent approximately 180 pounds of ammonium nitrate to Bartkus shortly before traveling to his residence, where he stayed from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8.

During his stay, Park and Bartkus allegedly ‘ran experiments’ in a detached garage, which was later searched by law enforcement after the bombing. The search revealed significant amounts of chemicals commonly used in the construction of homemade bombs. Four days after the bombing, Park flew to Europe, where he was later detained in Poland and ordered deported to the United States.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi described the attack as ‘horrific’ and ‘cruel,’ while FBI Director Kash Patel praised the cooperation of authorities in Poland in bringing Park back to America. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli called domestic terrorism ‘evil and unacceptable,’ and warned that those who aid terrorists can expect to face the ‘cold wrath of justice.’

Park faces a statutory maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison if convicted. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The FBI’s Inland Empire Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the matter. Park is currently being held in the Eastern District of New York, where he made his initial court appearance today.
