A 16-year prison sentence was handed down to Martinez Raynor, 25, for his part in a fatal drive-by shooting that occurred on October 20, 2018, in front of a convenience store in Southeast Washington.
On that day, Raynor and two accomplices drove into the parking lot of Holiday Market and Liquor Store on Wheeler Road SE. They opened fire on a group of men, striking the victim, Malik McCloud, in the back, leaving him paralyzed. The shooters returned and fatally struck McCloud in the chest as he lay helpless on the ground.
Raynor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed on October 4, 2024, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The Honorable Maribeth Raffinan handed down the sentence today.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department commended the work of those who investigated the case, including the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. They also acknowledged the valuable assistance provided by Paralegal Specialists LaShone Samuels and Lisa Speight, Victim Assistant Jennifer Allen, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zach Horton and Joshua Hall, who prosecuted the case.
The incident occurred at 1:56 p.m. outside the Holiday Market and Liquor Store, 3509 Wheeler Road SE. The shooters fled the scene, leaving McCloud seriously injured. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation.
