Daniel McSkimming, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Missouri 2024

A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 110 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel handed down the sentence to Daniel McSkimming, 23, of St. Louis, Missouri, on July , 2024. McSkimming had pleaded guilty in July to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug distribution.

The charges stem from two separate incidents in St. Louis in August 2019. On August 13, 2019, officers from the St. Louis County Police responded to a call for shots fired inside an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Park Hill Circle. A sport utility vehicle (SUV) seen fleeing from the area was registered to McSkimming’s parents.

Officers spotted ballistic damage on an apartment and seized three 9mm casings and one bullet from the scene. Further investigation revealed that one of the people who lived in the apartment owed McSkimming money for heroin and McSkimming previously threatened the individual over Facebook regarding the money owed.

Later that evening, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police received calls for shots fired in the 3900 block of Weber Road. McSkimming was a passenger in the same SUV and fired multiple shots at a residence. Officers found ballistic damage and seized four 9mm casings and one bullet from the scene.

The investigation linked the cartridge casings from the two shootings. Additionally, defendant’s telephone was identified as being in the area of each shooting at the time of the incident.

On September 3, 2019, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested McSkimming at a hotel and seized a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and four capsules containing a mixture of fentanyl and heroin.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police, St. Louis County Police, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Jen Szczucinski handled the case as part of the Safer Streets Initiative. The initiative was launched by Attorney General Schmitt and U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen in January 2019 as an unprecedented state and federal partnership to prosecute violent crime in St. Louis.
