Lyons Man Sentenced to 12 Months for Manufacturing Marijuana

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 29-year-old man from Lyons, New York, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for manufacturing more than 50 marijuana plants.

Daniel Safranec, 29, was convicted of manufacturing more than 50 marijuana plants and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David G. Later, troopers returned with a search warrant and found 261 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, mason jars used for storage of dried marijuana, and high-wattage grow lights and other equipment necessary for operating an indoor marijuana cultivation operation.

On April 23, 2013, Safranec was arrested on federal drug charges related to the November 6, 2012, incident. During the arrest, officers observed marijuana and marijuana clippings in the residence. A second search warrant was obtained, and law enforcement found marijuana on the floor near the bedrooms, multiple marijuana plant structures at various stages of growth, and equipment associated with a marijuana grow operation. They also discovered racks of marijuana that had been harvested and were drying in a barn on the property.

The investigation into Safranec’s activities was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York State Police. Special Agents of the DEA, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt, and the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Craig S. Hanesworth, worked together to bring Safranec to justice.
