Criminals Targeted: Da’Quan Payne

A 30-year-old Cincinnati man, Da’Quan Payne, has been sentenced to 14 years behind bars for a string of federal crimes related to firearms and narcotics.

According to court documents, Payne possessed nine firearms, approximately $194,000 in cash, and distributable amounts of fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. Nearly $158,000 in cash was found in his home.

The investigation, led by the Norwood Drug Task Force, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), and Cincinnati Police Department, uncovered Payne’s suspected drug-trafficking activity in June 2019. Law enforcement conducted five controlled purchases of fentanyl from Payne, during which they observed him carrying a firearm. As a previously convicted felon, Payne is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

Agents discovered eight of Payne’s nine firearms, along with fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, in his storage units. The ninth firearm and over $12,000 in cash were found in his vehicle. In total, Payne had more than $24,000 in cash stored in the lockers.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program focused on reducing violent crime. The PSN initiative brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify and develop comprehensive solutions to address violent crime.

Da’Quan Payne was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Michael R. Barrett to 170 months in prison for committing five federal crimes related to firearms and narcotics.
