United States Attorney Jay Clayton announced the sentence of Da’Quan Tucker to 57 months in federal prison for a brutal assault on his former cellmate with a contraband knife at Federal Correctional Institution Otisville. The incident took place on April 3, 2024, when Tucker, then incarcerated for a robbery conviction from July 2023, attacked another inmate without provocation, leaving him critically injured.
The violent act, which took place in the prison yard, resulted in severe head and facial injuries to the victim. Following the assault, Tucker reportedly expressed his intent to harm the victim again if given the opportunity. The judge presiding over the case, U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern, emphasized that such violence is unacceptable within federal correctional facilities.
Tucker, 23, of Washington, D.C., also faces three years of supervised release upon his release from prison. The United States Attorney thanked the staff of FCI Otisville for their support and highlighted the diligent work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force in investigating the case.
This case has been prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Shaun E. Werbelow and Justin L. Brooke, who are dedicated to ensuring justice is served for victims of violent crimes within correctional facilities.
