WATERVILLE, MAINE – In a shocking display of depravity, 41-year-old Darin Doe of Waterville, Maine, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing over 7,000 computer files of child pornography. The vile images, which depicted the sexual exploitation of prepubescent girls under the age of 12, were downloaded from the internet and discovered by investigators on November 4, 2015.
According to court records, Doe’s guilty plea was made on July 12, 2017, after he was found to have knowingly possessed and distributed the disturbing images. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit worked tirelessly to bring Doe to justice.
The investigation revealed that Doe had deliberately sought out and downloaded the images, which were a clear violation of federal law. As a result, he was subject to a mandatory-minimum prison term of 10 years due to his previous federal conviction for receiving child pornography in 2002.
As part of his sentence, Doe has been ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to his victims. The harsh sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
The case serves as a warning to would-be offenders that the authorities will not tolerate such heinous crimes. The 10-year prison sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in Maine and their commitment to protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
