Stephen G. Olivo, Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, Maine 2024

Bangor, Maine – In a disturbing case of a convicted sex offender failing to adhere to the law, 58-year-old Stephen G. Olivo of Caribou, Maine, has pleaded guilty to his egregious crime.

Court records reveal that Olivo was convicted of aggravated felonious sexual assault in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, back in 1990. The conviction required him to register as a sex offender for life, a responsibility he chose to ignore.

It is reported that Olivo traveled from Georgia to Maine and lived and worked in Aroostook County in 2014 or 2015 but failed to inform the sex offender registry in New Hampshire that he had left his home state. Moreover, he never registered in Maine, as required by law.

Olivo’s actions were uncovered in September 2018, when he was subsequently arrested. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service, a testament to their dedication to keeping communities safe.

The defendant now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. His sentencing will occur after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender and adhering to the laws in place to protect society. It is our hope that this guilty plea will bring closure to the victims and their families.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has demonstrated its commitment to holding individuals accountable for their actions, and we commend their efforts in ensuring that justice is served.

In related news, the U.S. Marshal’s Service has announced plans to increase their efforts in monitoring sex offenders and ensuring that they comply with registration requirements.
