Darryl Colton Frazer, Gun and Drug Conspiracy, Maryland 2023

Greenbelt, Maryland – In a major blow to gun and drug trafficking in the region, 34-year-old Darryl Colton Frazer of Silver Spring, Maryland, has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in a gun and drug conspiracy, it was announced yesterday in a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.

Frazer was convicted of gun and drug conspiracy charges and for violating supervised release on November 3, 2022, after a three-day trial. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman.

The charges against Frazer stem from his arrest on July 25, 2019, when officers from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) approached him and co-defendant Shamire Moore after noting that Moore matched the description of an individual involved in a recent shooting.

According to the evidence presented at trial, when Frazer and Moore saw the officers, they ran into a nearby residential area. Witnesses testified that Frazer threw a black bag from the stairwell into an adjacent courtyard before his arrest. The bag was immediately recovered by police and found to contain a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, 103 grams of marijuana packaged into four separate plastic bags, a digital scale, and latex gloves.

Frazer was on supervised release for a previous federal conviction for unlawful weapons possession at the time of his arrest. He knew that as a result of his previous conviction, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

Shamire Moore, 31, of Bowie, Maryland, pleaded guilty just before trial and was sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (“PSN”), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based efforts. United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the ATF and the Montgomery County Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The investigation was led by the ATF Baltimore Field Division and the Montgomery County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Adam K. Ake, Joel Crespo, and Patrick D. Kibbe prosecuted the case.
