Drew Scarborough, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Iowa 2022

A 25-year-old Iowa man has been sentenced to over a decade in federal prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking organization.

Drew Scarborough, of Evansdale, Iowa, received a 150-month prison term after pleading guilty in December 2022 to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

According to information presented at sentencing, Scarborough became involved with the drug trafficking organization in 2020 and purchased two pounds of methamphetamine from a source in Mexico.

However, due to his failure to pay the source, Scarborough was unable to obtain additional methamphetamine, and he had previously threatened to kill another member of the conspiracy on behalf of the source.

Scarborough’s case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Dillan Edwards and Emily Nydle, and was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program.

The case was investigated through a cooperative effort of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Scarborough is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison for the start of his 150-month sentence, which will be followed by a 5-year term of supervised release.
