A New Orleans man is behind bars after pleading guilty to federal narcotics charges. Darryl Lewis, a/k/a “Uncle Tom,” a/k/a “Poppa Tom,” age 63, was sentenced to a term of time served (approximately 31 months) in prison, and a supervised release term of 3 years.

Lewis was a street-level dealer in the conspiracy, selling heroin to customers in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans with several co-conspirators. He also stored firearms for his co-conspirators and served as a “tester” of heroin.

Lewis pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin. The sentencing was held in a U.S. District Court presided over by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier.

The investigation into the heroin conspiracy was led by the FBI New Orleans Field Office, with assistance provided by the DEA New Orleans Field Division, the New Orleans Police Department, the Major Crimes Task Force, the FBI Kansas City Division (Jefferson City Resident Office), and the St. Louis County Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Payne, Shirin Hakimzadeh, and Andre Lagarde are in charge of prosecution. Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the FBI New Orleans Field Office.
