ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – A convicted felon from Zuni has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm offense after being caught with a handgun and ammunition.

Daryl Jay Dickson, 38, admitted to being a previously convicted felon who knew he was not allowed to possess a firearm and ammunition. He is now facing the consequences of his actions in a federal court.

The Zuni Police Department, assisted by Zuni Fish and Wildlife and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, worked together to investigate the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones will be prosecuting the case.

As part of his plea agreement, Dickson will have to forfeit the handgun he possessed to the United States government. He is currently out on conditions of release pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

At sentencing, Dickson faces a prison sentence of 27 to 33 months. Upon his release from prison, he will be subject to up to three years of supervised release. However, it is worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.
