A Frightening Altercation in Zuni Pueblo
ALBUQUERQUE – In a disturbing incident, 23-year-old Joey Luarkie is facing federal charges for allegedly stabbing his acquaintance, John Doe, in the throat at a residence in Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico. The harrowing event unfolded on February 4, 2024.
According to the criminal complaint, the altercation began when John Doe’s girlfriend, Jane Doe, and he got into an argument outside the residence. Luarkie, who was also present, allegedly followed John Doe and Jane Doe into the bedroom, where a physical altercation ensued. The confrontation ended with John Doe collapsing in the front yard after being stabbed in the throat.
Responding officers from the Zuni Police Department found Jane Doe performing CPR on John Doe, who was later transported to Zuni Health Center before being life-flighted to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque for emergency surgeries.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and Luarkie is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If found guilty of the current charge, he faces up to ten years in prison per count.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Marshall is handling the prosecution.
Luarkie will remain in temporary custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for February 8, 2024. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of escalating violence and the importance of community support in preventing such occurrences.
The FBI and Zuni Police Department commend the bravery of the responding officers who acted quickly to save John Doe’s life. The investigation is ongoing, and any further updates will be provided as necessary.
