Zuni Man Pleads Guilty to Assault in New Mexico
A vicious assault in Zuni, New Mexico has resulted in a guilty plea from Christopher Hannaweeke, Sr., 49, an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni.
According to court documents, on February 25, 2023, Hannaweeke kicked John Doe in the head and body, leaving the victim with fractures to his face, extreme physical pain, and a lengthy hospital stay.
The brutal assault has sent shockwaves through the community, and Hannaweeke’s guilty plea is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence.
Hannaweeke is currently on conditions of release pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled. At sentencing, he faces a maximum of 21 months in prison, followed by up to three years of supervised release.
The investigation into the assault was led by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Zuni Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Caitlin L. Dillon is prosecuting the case, with U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announcing the guilty plea today.
