Daryl Levi, 41, Indicted for Brutal Assault in Shiprock
A brutal crime shook the community of Shiprock, New Mexico, in May 2020 when Daryl Levi, a 41-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, attacked John Doe and stole his vehicle from the Gulf Gas Station parking lot. Levi’s actions left the victim with severe bodily injuries, including bruises and contusions.
According to court documents, Levi participated in the assault with the intention of taking Doe’s motor vehicle. His brazen act of violence has now caught up with him, as he pleaded guilty to the felony assault charges in federal court.
Levi’s plea agreement, which outlines the terms of his surrender, reveals that he will remain in custody until sentencing. The court will determine his fate, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 37 months and a maximum sentence of 46 months in prison. Following his release, Levi will be subject to up to three years of supervised release.
The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, in collaboration with the Navajo Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations, led the investigation into the crime. U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced Levi’s guilty plea today.
Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Probasco is responsible for prosecuting the case. As the community breathes a sigh of relief, the focus now shifts to the sentencing hearing, where Levi’s future will be decided. The people of Shiprock can take comfort in knowing that justice is being served.
In the meantime, the people of Shiprock cannot help but wonder what drove Levi to commit such a heinous crime. Was it a moment of madness, or a calculated act of violence? The answers, much like Levi’s fate, remain uncertain.
The guilty plea serves as a reminder that crime does not pay, and that those who commit such acts will be held accountable. As the community continues to heal and recover from the trauma inflicted by Levi’s actions, they can take solace in the knowledge that justice is on their side.
