A 42-year-old man in Hardy County has been sentenced to almost 4.3 years in prison for selling a highly addictive and powerful substance.
David Abreu, of Fisher, West Virginia, was sentenced to 51 months of incarceration for a drug charge, United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced.
Abreu pleaded guilty in April 2022 to one count of ‘Distribution of Methamphetamine – Aiding and Abetting.’ He admitted to selling methamphetamine, also known as ‘crystal meth’ and ‘ice,’ in Hardy County in February 2021.
Abreu’s actions put the community at risk, and his conviction holds him accountable for his crimes. The sentence handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh is a reminder that those who engage in drug trafficking will face severe consequences.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Potomac Highlands Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case.
The sentence is a result of Abreu’s guilty plea in April 2022. It is a significant blow to those who would seek to peddle such a destructive substance in our community.
Elkins, West Virginia, is a city in Randolph County, but this case involved Hardy County. The conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of working together to combat the scourge of drug trafficking.
