Bristol Man Sentenced to 235 Months in Prison for Child Pornography Production
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – In a shocking case of child exploitation, David Earl Taylor, a 50-year-old man from Bristol, Tennessee, has been sentenced to serve 235 months in federal prison for producing child pornography. This heinous crime is a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in our communities.
Taylor’s sentence was handed down by the Honorable J. Ronnie Greer, U.S. District Court Judge, on October 26, 2016. In addition to his prison time, Taylor was also ordered to remain under supervised release for the remainder of his life, register with state sex offender registries, and pay $100 in special assessments.
Taylor pleaded guilty to producing child pornography in April 2016, admitting to using a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct in order to produce child pornography in 2014. This despicable act is a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the victim and the community at large.
The investigation into Taylor’s crimes was led by the Bristol, Tennessee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Helen Smith, Assistant U.S. Attorney, represented the United States in this case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the government in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
As a community, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our children from predators like David Earl Taylor. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our communities to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Taylor’s sentence serves as a warning to would-be offenders that child exploitation will not be tolerated. We will continue to shine a light on these crimes and work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.
