A 33-year-old Rochester man, Jeremy Brooks, has been indicted for producing, distributing, and possessing child sex abuse materials. The alleged crimes involved two minor victims and were committed in Rochester, New Hampshire. Brooks is currently in state custody on related assault charges and will appear in federal court on July 28. The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations, the Rochester Police Department, and the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The indictment charges Brooks with two counts of production of child sex abuse materials, one count of distribution, and one count of possession. Each production charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in prison. The distribution charge carries a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years, while the possession charge carries a maximum of 20 years.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children and identify and rescue victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Rombeau is prosecuting the case. The details contained in the indictment are allegations, and Brooks is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
