David Elmo Curry Convicted of Attempted Enticement of a Minor
A Clarkston man has been convicted of attempting to entice a minor for sex after a sting operation was conducted by the Washington State Patrol, assisted by the Yakima and Union Gap Police Departments and Homeland Security Investigations.
David Elmo Curry, 38, was arrested in November 2019 after responding to an online ad that was part of a sting operation. The ad was placed by a woman purporting to be the mother of two daughters, ages 11 and 13, who was seeking money in exchange for sex with her minor children.
According to the evidence presented at trial, Curry had condoms and flavored lubricant with him at the time of his arrest. He was initially charged with Attempted First Degree Rape of a Child and Second Degree Rape of a child in Yakima County Superior Court.
However, after Curry’s release on bail, a Homeland Security Investigations Task Force Officer, acting in an undercover capacity, responded to a separate online ad placed by Curry. The undercover officer represented that he was a 13-year-old girl, and Curry engaged in sexual talk, requested nude images, and made arrangements to meet with him in person.
Curry faces a minimum sentence of 10 years’ incarceration and a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, as well as no less than five years of supervised release and mandatory sex offender registration for each count. Sentencing in this matter is set for March 26, 2024.
‘Mr. Curry attempted to meet, what he believed to be, a 13-year-old child for sex. When Mr. Curry did so, he had been released on bail for a similar charge,’ stated U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref.
‘I am thankful to our excellent law enforcement partners and the members of the Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force who work to ensure our communities are protected from those that would harm the most vulnerable among us.’
