A 60-year-old Waterloo man is facing serious prison time after pleading guilty to a federal firearm charge.
David L. Brinson, 60, of Waterloo, NY, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon before U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford, who is handling the case, Brinson was previously convicted in 2000, 2006 and 2016 of felony charges and is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The guilty plea stems from a September 14, 2022, home visit by New York State Parole Officers at Brinson’s residence on Seneca Boulevard in Waterloo.
During the visit, a parole officer found a .22 caliber rifle in Brinson’s bedroom.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, under the direction of Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, New York Field Division.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 18, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. before Judge Larimer.
