Former Pop Warner Director Sentenced to 27 Months in Prison
TRENTON, N.J. – Former regional director of the Eastern Region of Pop Warner Little Scholars Inc. (Pop Warner) David Marshall was sentenced to 27 months in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the organization and using the funds for his personal benefit. U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced the sentence today.
Marshall, 58, of Jackson, New Jersey, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joel A. Pisano to one count of wire fraud. Judge Pisano imposed the sentence on April 24, 2024, in Trenton federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Marshall used his authority to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from Pop Warner between 2005 and 2011. He improperly used funds from Pop Warner bank accounts to pay off personal debts and make cash withdrawals. Marshall also used a Pop Warner credit card to purchase personal items and other things unrelated to Pop Warner.
Marshall’s sentence includes three years of supervised release, ordered to pay $559,841 in restitution and forfeit $559,841.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Aaron T. Ford in Newark, with the investigation leading to today’s sentencing.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas P. Grippo of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.
Defense counsel for Marshall is Brian P. Reilly Esq., Assistant Federal Public Defender, Trenton.
Marshall’s case is another example of the long-term consequences of embezzlement and the importance of holding public officials accountable for their actions.
