David McLellan, Child Pornography, Massachusetts 2014

A Taunton man’s descent into darkness has come to an end. David McLellan, 31, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release for producing and transporting child pornography.

McLellan’s guilty plea in February 2014 marked the beginning of the end. He had been caught by an undercover agent who downloaded child pornography on a peer-to-peer file sharing network from McLellan’s residence.

Federal agents swooped in, obtaining a search warrant for McLellan’s home and seizing multiple items of computer media. A computer forensic examination revealed a staggering six million images of child pornography and child erotica of prepubescent children and infants.

McLellan’s crime is a stark reminder of the horrors that lurk in the shadows of the internet. The sheer volume of child pornography is a chilling testament to the extent of this heinous crime.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Vincent B. Lisi, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eve A. Piemonte Stacey of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Launched in 2006, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children.

As a society, we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice for these heinous crimes. David McLellan’s sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement and the justice system in protecting our children.
