A Greene, Iowa man has pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography in federal court. David Myers, age 54, admitted to using the Internet to receive child pornography between 2005 and 2014.
Myers was convicted of one count of receipt of child pornography. At the plea hearing, he also admitted to a prior conviction of three charges of sexual abuse in the third degree in 1998.
The guilty plea was entered on February 6, 2018, in federal court in Cedar Rapids. Myers was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after the plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing.
Sentencing will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Myers faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and supervised release for 5 years to life following any imprisonment.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
