A jury in Pecos, Texas, delivered a guilty verdict against Thomas Scott Perkins, 31, of Fort Stockton, for distributing and possessing child pornography.
According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents discovered that Perkins was sharing child pornography online after a search warrant was executed at his residence on September 14, 2020. Multiple hard drive devices containing 95,316 images and 1,237 videos of child pornography were seized.
Perkins was found guilty of one count of distribution of child pornography and eight counts of possession of child pornography. He faces up to 20 years in prison on the distribution count and up to 10 years in prison on each of the possession counts. Perkins will be sentenced on October 24, 2022 and has remained in federal custody since his arrest.
The investigation was conducted by HSI with assistance from the FBI, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Public Safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott V. Greenbaum and Kevin Cayton are prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from exploitation and abuse. The efforts of law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and victim advocates are crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety of our communities.
