PITTSBURGH – In a disturbing case of child sexual exploitation, David Straitiff, a 48-year-old resident of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of Production and Attempted Production of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Possession of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
According to the indictment, Straitiff persuaded and coerced Minor A, a minor female known to the grand jury, to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct on multiple dates between April 2010 and July 2012. The grand jury further alleges that on June 1, 2021, and December 17, 2021, Straitiff knowingly possessed visual depictions, the production of which involved the use of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than 15 years, nor more than 30 years in prison, a fine of $3,250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Karen Gal-Or is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
