Michael Krepp, Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography, New York 2024

Michael Krepp, 58, of Rochester, NY, is behind bars facing federal child pornography charges after a months-long FBI sting. Krepp was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with receipt and distribution of child pornography — a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field, who is prosecuting the case, undercover FBI agents uncovered multiple files containing graphic videos and images of child pornography between September 9, 2017, and January 22, 2018. Some of the material depicted prepubescent children engaged in sexual acts — the most disturbing tier of illegal content under federal law.

Investigators traced the digital footprints of the files back to an IP address linked directly to Krepp. That digital trail led federal agents to his doorstep. The connection wasn’t circumstantial — it was a direct match to the network used by the defendant during the time the illicit files were shared.

In February 2018, law enforcement executed a search and seized digital media from Krepp. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of child pornography on the recovered devices. The evidence, federal prosecutors say, is damning and forms the core of the criminal complaint.

Krepp made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson, who ordered him detained pending further proceedings. No bond was offered, reflecting both the severity of the charges and the perceived risk to the community.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin P. Lyons. As with all federal cases, the charges are allegations. Michael Krepp is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
