Callahan Man Jailed for Child Porn
Florida, USA – Ronald Eugene Mabrey, Jr., a 34-year-old former nurse from Callahan, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for receiving child pornography over the internet. This sentence comes after a lengthy investigation by federal agencies, including the FBI, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, FBI agents and other law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at Mabrey’s residence on July 28, 2015. During an interview, Mabrey confessed to searching for, downloading, and viewing “all types” of child pornography, stating his addiction began about four years prior. Forensic analysis of his laptop and a thumb drive revealed more than 190 videos and at least 4,000 images depicting child pornography.
Mabrey has been in federal custody since his arrest on July 28, 2015. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and to forfeit his computer media. This case is another example of the federal government’s efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
As part of this effort, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has launched Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown. Mabrey’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in such heinous crimes.
The Nassau County community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a child predator has been brought to justice. However, the sentence also serves as a reminder that there is still much work to be done to protect our children from those who would seek to harm them.
