Leichester Man Pleads Guilty to Recruiting Minor for Prostitution

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a shocking turn of events, Jacob Shamp, a 23-year-old resident of Leichester, New York, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to recruit an underage girl to commit a commercial sex act. The heinous crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $250,000 fine.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa Marangola, Shamp and his girlfriend, Ashlee Cook, 24, posted an ad on Backpage.com, advertising a minor victim for prostitution. Law enforcement officers conducted an undercover operation and arranged to meet the girl in Gates, New York. When officers arrived, they took a statement from the minor victim.

Charges are still pending against Ashlee Cook, who is believed to be involved in the twisted scheme. The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Craig Hanesworth, and the Gates Police Department, under the direction of Chief James VanBrederode.

Shamp’s guilty plea marks a devastating blow to the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies to combat the scourge of human trafficking. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable children and the importance of protecting them from predators like Shamp.

As the investigation continues, the people of New York can rest assured that their law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to bring those responsible for these heinous crimes to justice. The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
