A 31-year-old Emsworth man is facing federal charges for attempting to coerce a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.
According to an indictment, Thomas Kastory used the internet and a cellular telephone network to attempt to persuade, induce, entice or coerce an individual who had not attained the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity.
The indictment alleges that Kastory chatted with an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old child for over a month, and on May 29, 2022, boarded a bus to travel to meet the child where he expected to return to the child’s residence to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
Kastory, believing that the child’s parent was out of town and that the child would be alone, brought condoms, lubricant, and a sex toy with him for his anticipated meeting with the child.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than 10 years in prison, a fine not to exceed $250,000.00, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years.
Kastory’s actual sentence would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and his prior criminal history, if any.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
An indictment is an accusation, and Kastory is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
