David Vonarb, Distribution of Child Pornography, Kentucky 2024

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Gallatin County, Kentucky. David Vonarb, 26, of Warsaw, Ky., has been sentenced to 132 months in prison for distributing child pornography.

According to court documents, Vonarb engaged in a direct-messaging conversation with an undercover FBI employee on an end-to-end encrypted application. He distributed at least 13 videos and 8 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This was not an isolated incident, as Vonarb continued to distribute child pornography in various chatrooms.

Law enforcement discovered Vonarb’s involvement and searched his residence on October 23, 2024. During the search, he admitted to using the encrypted application to receive, view, and distribute child pornography. A forensic review of his laptop revealed evidence of thousands of images and videos of child pornography.

Under federal law, Vonarb must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 25 years.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Winslow is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Paul McCaffrey, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Olivia Olson, Special Agent in Charge, FBI, Louisville Field Office, jointly announced the sentence. The investigation was conducted by the FBI.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from exploitation. We must continue to work together to identify and prosecute those who perpetuate this heinous crime.
