A South Beloit man has been convicted of a federal child pornography charge in the Northern District of Illinois. David Wittwer, 51, entered a guilty plea on Wednesday before U.S. District Judge John Z. Lee in Rockford.
According to court documents, Wittwer admitted to using his computer to post images of child pornography to a website on February 24, 2016. He also admitted to possessing a tablet device and cellphone that contained more than 600 images and videos of child pornography.
The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison, and a maximum of 20 years. Judge Lee set sentencing for July 27, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
The guilty plea was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Angie Salazar, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of Homeland Security Investigations. Valuable assistance was provided by the South Beloit Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Love. The case is part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. Attorney’s Office to combat child exploitation and abuse.
