Joseph S. Martin, Distributing Child Pornography, Nebraska 2024

Omaha, NE – Grimy Times

A former Hebron, Nebraska man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography. Joseph S. Martin, 23, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on January 18, 2024, after being convicted of distributing child pornography. This is not Martin’s first offense, as he was previously convicted of possession of child pornography in both 2019 and 2021.

The investigation into Martin’s activities began on November 9, 2021, when Homeland Security Investigations in Omaha received a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). The tip included information forwarded by Facebook to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about a user who had distributed child exploitation material on July 12, 2021. Facebook identified the IP address and account associated with the user as belonging to Martin.

Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for Martin’s Facebook account and found several images of child pornography. When questioned, Martin admitted to law enforcement that he had uploaded approximately 500 images of child pornography to various cyber sites.

Martin’s previous convictions for possession of child pornography were obtained in the Douglas County District Court in 2019 and 2021. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Martin to 20 years’ imprisonment, with no parole available in the federal system. Martin will also be required to pay $24,000 in restitution upon his release from prison.

Following his release from prison, Martin will begin a 30-year term of supervised release. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Martin’s sentencing is a significant victory for the people of Nebraska and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from exploitation and abuse. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
