Lincoln Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Hoard
A 63-year-old Lincoln man, Joseph D. Maciarz, Jr., has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in a massive child pornography operation. Maciarz, a resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his crimes.
On November 5, 2022, an investigator with the Nebraska State Patrol downloaded files containing child pornography from a peer-to-peer file sharing network. The investigator was able to obtain the IP address of the computer sharing the files, which led them to Maciarz’s residence. A search warrant was obtained, and numerous electronic devices were seized during the search.
Maciarz was home at the time and admitted to police that he had been downloading and uploading child pornography for the past twenty years. The electronic devices were later examined and found to contain more than 4,000 files depicting child pornography, with some of the victims ranging in age from infant to 9 years old.
Maciarz will face no parole in the federal system, and after his release from prison, he will begin a 12-year term of supervised release. In addition to his prison sentence, Maciarz was ordered to pay a total of $5,100 in special assessments and $24,000 in restitution.
The case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska handling the prosecution. Senior United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard presided over the sentencing hearing.
The severity of Maciarz’s crimes is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child pornography on its victims. As the investigation revealed, Maciarz’s actions not only harmed the children depicted in the images but also perpetuated a cycle of abuse and exploitation.
The sentence handed down to Maciarz is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of child pornography to justice. As the Grimy Times continues to shine a light on these heinous crimes, we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
