A Buffalo man is heading to prison for 20 years for selling fentanyl that led to fatal and non-fatal overdoses. Davon Mitchell, a/k/a Blu Boyy, 35, of Buffalo, NY, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
According to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, Mitchell was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. The sentence is a result of an investigation that began in 2019, when Mitchell started obtaining and distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in the Western District of New York.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson stated that between March 22 and May 12, 2022, Mitchell sold approximately 2.7 grams of fentanyl, 72 grams of methamphetamine, and 3 grams of crack cocaine to an undercover police officer. On June 1, 2022, law enforcement arrested Mitchell and executed a search warrant at his Janice Street residence, recovering a quantity of methamphetamine, $3,257 in cash, a cell phone, a revolver, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia.
Mitchell admitted that he distributed fentanyl that resulted in the overdose deaths of two individuals from acute fentanyl intoxication. He also admitted selling fentanyl that resulted in the non-fatal overdose of another individual on three occasions. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Buffalo Police Department, the West Seneca Police Department, and the New York State Police.
The 20-year sentence is a significant blow to the drug trafficking operations in the Western District of New York.
