New Orleans, LA – Grimy Times Exclusive: Dayshawn Brown, 40, a New Orleans resident, has been sentenced to 144 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier after Brown pleaded guilty to Counts 3 and 4 of the indictment against him.
According to court documents, on September 13, 2023, Brown met with an individual at a gas station in New Orleans, believing them to be a legitimate buyer. During the transaction, Brown sold the agent a Beretta Pietro S.P.A. Model 70S pistol and approximately 54 grams of methamphetamine.
Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the New Orleans Police Department in this case. Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, was integral to this investigation.
The PSN initiative, launched on May 26, 2021, focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, strategic law enforcement priorities, and measuring results. Brown’s sentence is part of this broader strategy.
Brown was also ordered to serve four years of supervised release upon his release from prison and must pay a $200 special assessment fee. Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell prosecuted the case on behalf of the Violent Crime Unit.
This sentencing sends a clear message that law enforcement will not tolerate drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession, ensuring safer neighborhoods for all.
