Washington, D.C. – In a stark reminder of the stakes involved in illegal firearms transactions, Anthony Darnell McCutchen, 27, from Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for his role in the procurement of two illegal firearms.

McCutchen’s conviction stems from an October 2016 incident at a Virginia gunshow where he orchestrated the purchase of the firearms. According to court documents, McCutchen not only aided in the false statements made by an individual he had convinced to buy the guns but also accompanied him to the dealer, provided the money for the transaction, and instructed on how to behave during the purchase.

But law enforcement was watching: Observers at the gunshow flagged McCutchen’s activities. Following his exit from the venue, officers conducted a traffic stop, leading to the recovery of the two firearms from his possession.
