On April 2017, a jury convicted Dean Jones, a/k/a ‘Kurupt,’ of robbing a restaurant in New York in 2012, during which he shot an innocent customer. The violent crime left the victim badly injured. Jones was also found guilty of participating in a wide-ranging conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, heroin, and other drugs.
US Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman praised the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for its exceptional work in the investigation. ‘Thanks to the outstanding work of the ATF, Jones will now spend decades in prison,’ Berman said.
Jones, 37, of Bronx, New York, was sentenced to 26 years in prison for his crimes. In addition to the prison term, he was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
Of the 10 defendants charged in connection with this case, all 10 have pled guilty or been convicted at trial.
The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Clore, Jessica Feinstein, Thomas McKay, and Hagan Scotten are in charge of the prosecution.
Jones’s crimes have sent a strong message that violent and destructive behavior will not be tolerated. The 26-year prison sentence is a testament to the justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable for their actions.
