David Hueston, Meth Trafficking, Marion IN, 2023

MARION, IN – David Hueston, 45, of Marion, Indiana, will spend the next two decades behind bars after receiving a 240-month federal prison sentence for a cocktail of serious drug and weapons charges. U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady handed down the sentence following Hueston’s guilty plea, effectively removing a significant player in the local drug trade.

The bust went down in February 2021 when law enforcement descended on Hueston’s residence. Inside, they found a disturbing amount of narcotics – over two pounds of methamphetamine – alongside a firearm. The search wasn’t limited to meth; investigators also seized fentanyl, heroin, and marijuana, painting a picture of a multi-drug operation. A hefty $17,000 in cash was also recovered, presumably the proceeds of his illegal enterprise.

But the charges didn’t stop at drug possession. Hueston was also convicted of possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, adding significant time to his sentence. Crucially, the 45-year-old is a convicted felon, meaning he was already legally prohibited from owning or possessing any firearm. This prior conviction transformed a simple possession charge into a far more serious federal offense.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with vital support from the Grant County Jean (Joint Effort Against Narcotics) Team Drug Task Force. This task force, a collaboration between the Grant County Sheriff’s Department and the Marion Police Department, demonstrates a coordinated effort to tackle drug-related crime in the region. The partnership proved instrumental in gathering the evidence needed to secure the conviction.

Assistant United States Attorney Brent Ecenbarger prosecuted the case, navigating the complexities of federal drug and weapons laws. Following his 20-year prison term, Hueston will face an additional five years of supervised release, a period where his activities will be closely monitored. This sentence sends a clear message: trafficking drugs and illegally possessing firearms will not be tolerated in Northern Indiana.

The Grimy Times will continue to monitor federal cases impacting communities across the nation. This case underscores the ongoing struggle against the flow of illegal narcotics and the persistent threat posed by repeat offenders. The ATF’s Chicago Field Division was involved in the investigation, highlighting the agency’s broad reach in combating federal crimes.
