Florida Man Pleads Guilty to Kickback Conspiracy in Massachusetts
BOSTON, MA – In a shocking turn of events, Deane Gilmore, a 35-year-old Florida resident, pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiring to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute. The charge carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greater.
Gilmore, who owned and managed two durable medical equipment companies, Jupiter Medical Associates Inc. and Granite Medical Associates Inc., was charged in December 2025. The scheme, which lasted from March 2020 through approximately April 2022, involved paying telemarketers or call centers to obtain medical information from Medicare beneficiaries, resulting in medically unnecessary and false documentation of durable medical equipment orders.
As a result of his scheme, Gilmore submitted or caused to be submitted a total of approximately $6.5 million in kickback-tainted claims to Medicare. Unfortunately, Medicare ultimately paid out approximately $2.3 million for these kickback-tainted claims.
The guilty plea was announced today by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, Roberto Coviello, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General, Nicholas Bucciarelli, Acting Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Looney of the National Security Unit is prosecuting the case.
