South Dakota man leaves his partner in a critical state after an argument turned violent.
Delano White Eagle, 46, was found guilty of Assault by Strangulation and Suffocation after he unlawfully assaulted his dating partner on August 24, 2016, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. The assault occurred during an argument between the two.
The victim was unlawfully assaulted by strangling and suffocating her, leaving her in a critical state.
Delano White Eagle was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 20, 2016, and pled guilty on January 24, 2017.
U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Delano White Eagle to 46 months in custody on April 10, 2017, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The case was investigated by the Ziebach County Sheriff’s Office and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.
Delano White Eagle was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing. The incident serves as a reminder of the severity of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help when needed.
