WICHITA, KAN. Two men from Texas have been indicted for allegedly robbing a bank in Wichita, Kansas, on October 17, 2023.
A federal grand jury returned the indictment charging Demond M. Johnson, 18, and Ryan D. Smith, 25, both of Houston, Texas, with one count of bank robbery.
According to court documents, the defendants are accused of robbing Credit Union of America on South Ridge Road in Wichita, Kansas.
If convicted, each faces up to 20 years in prison.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Wichita Police Department are investigating the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ola Odeyemi is prosecuting the case.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, was not directly involved in this case. However, the Wichita case highlights the importance of addressing financial crimes in the community.
