Defendant Charged with Escape from Custody in Kansas
A federal grand jury in Wichita, Kansas, has returned an indictment charging Lee Owen Hallford, 42, with one count of escape from custody.
According to court documents, Hallford is accused of unlawfully leaving the custody of the Bureau of Prisons while at the Residential Reentry Center — Correctional Solution Group, LLC in Wichita. He was detained based on a conviction in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma for assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country.
The U.S. Marshals Service is investigating the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lanny Welch and Aaron Smith are prosecuting the case.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Hallford, if convicted, could face serious consequences for his alleged actions. The Residential Reentry Center is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for inmates as they prepare to re-enter society.
The case highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of the justice system and ensuring that those who are released from custody do not pose a risk to public safety.
The public can expect a thorough investigation and prosecution of this case, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Lee Owen Hallford is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges against him. The community can rest assured that justice will be served.
