A Honduran national has been sentenced for violating U.S. immigration laws. Denis A. Munoz-Rodriguez, age 33, was found guilty of illegal reentry of a removed alien.
According to court documents, Munoz-Rodriguez was discovered in the United States on November 3, 2016, after being previously deported on January 16, 2003. He had not received permission from the Attorney General of the United States nor the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri was in charge of the prosecution.
Munoz-Rodriguez was sentenced to time served, followed by one year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. He will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri handled the prosecution. U.S. District Court Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle presided over the case.
