A Monroe County woman has been sentenced to prison for her role in a cocaine trafficking and money laundering conspiracy.
Denisse Camilo-Cepeda, 32, formerly of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to serve 48 months in prison by Senior United States District Judge Edwin M. Kosik for her involvement in a conspiracy to distribute powder cocaine and commit money laundering in Monroe and Northampton counties in 2011.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Camilo-Cepeda admitted to participating in the conspiracy, which also involved her husband, Dickson Gutierrez. Gutierrez, 37, was previously sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in the cocaine trafficking conspiracy.
As part of their plea agreements, Gutierrez and Camilo-Cepeda agreed to forfeit two properties in the Dominican Republic, which they purchased with the proceeds of cocaine trafficking activity. Camilo-Cepeda also faces deportation proceedings.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Kosik ordered that Camilo-Cepeda be supervised by a probation officer for five years following her release from prison, unless she is deported.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Stroud Area Regional Police Department, and the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara.
