Dennis Morgan, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Maryland 2023

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for failing to register as a convicted sex offender, announced Acting United States Attorney Stephen M. Schenning.

Greenbelt, Maryland – 52-year-old Dennis Morgan, a resident of Baltimore, Maryland, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for failing to register as a convicted sex offender. Morgan was also ordered to serve 6 months of his sentence in a halfway house and 5 years of supervised release.

The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge George J. Hazel. Morgan is required to register as a sex offender due to a 1996 conviction for Attempted Sexual Battery in Florida.

Between August 2016 and November 2016, Morgan resided and worked within the district of Maryland. During this time, he knowingly failed to register as a sex offender in the state of Maryland.

Acting United States Attorney Stephen M. Schenning commended the United States Marshals Service and Virginia State Police for their work in the investigation. Mr. Schenning thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Nadia Prinz and Joseph Baldwin, who prosecuted this case.

The investigation and prosecution of this case were part of the Department’s efforts to protect the citizens of Maryland from convicted sex offenders who fail to register.

Morgan’s sentence serves as a reminder that failing to register as a sex offender is a serious offense and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
