LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Jefferson County dentist is facing serious charges after allegedly distributing hydrocodone outside the course of professional medical practice.
Rodney B. Fultz, 63, a licensed dentist in Jefferson County, has been charged with the illegal distribution of controlled substances. According to a one-count federal Information filed by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, Fultz allowed a person known to the Grand Jury to use his DEA registration number to issue prescriptions for hydrocodone between January 20, 2012, and November 5, 2012, in Jefferson County.
The alleged scheme, which spanned nearly a year, is a serious offense that carries significant penalties. If convicted, Fultz could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, and up to a three-year period of supervised release.
The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has been investigating the case, and Weiser is prosecuting the charges. Fultz’s alleged actions not only put patients at risk but also undermined the integrity of the medical community.
The indictment of a person by a Federal Information is an accusation only, and Fultz is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the evidence against him is substantial, and it will be up to the courts to determine the outcome.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding medical standards and the consequences of violating them. As the investigation continues, it is clear that Fultz’s actions have caused harm to the community and will be held accountable.
The alleged hydrocodone prescription scheme has serious implications, and it is essential to address such crimes to protect public health and safety.
