LEXINGTON, Ky. — A chilling tale of drug dealing has hit the streets as Travis B. Preston, 28, and Tiffany L. Griffith, 25, from Stanford, Kentucky, have copped to a conspiracy charge for distributing deadly fentanyl.
Preston took the stand, confessing to the distribution of at least 40 grams of the lethal substance, while Griffith admitted to aiding and abetting in the same crime.
The grim revelation came to light when police discovered approximately 121 grams of fentanyl in Griffith’s possession during a traffic stop on April 5, 2016, in Lancaster. The substance, capable of being fatal at just two milligrams, poses a severe threat to public safety.
The joint investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Kentucky State Police, and Garrard County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Duncan Jr. represented the United States in court.
Scheduled for sentencing on March 6, 2016, Preston faces a minimum sentence of 10 years to life imprisonment due to a prior felony drug conviction. Griffith, on the other hand, is staring down a mandatory minimum of five years to a maximum of 40 years behind bars.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal fentanyl distribution and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat this deadly epidemic.
