Tampa Man Sentenced to Over 6 Years in Prison for Possessing Firearms as a Felon

A 28-year-old Tampa man has been sentenced to six years and three months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Denzel Ingram was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell. Ingram was also ordered to forfeit the firearms used in the commission of the offense.

Ingram pleaded guilty to the charges on August 6, 2025. The charges stem from an incident where an officer with the Tampa Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle Ingram was driving for a traffic violation. Ingram parked the vehicle in front of a nearby residence and refused the officer’s commands to stop.

Ingram ultimately fled from the residence and was arrested at a later date. Two loaded handguns were recovered from the driver’s side floorboard where Ingram had been seated. Prior to the offense, Ingram had been convicted of multiple felonies, including a conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2013.

As a convicted felon, Ingram is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tampa Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the government’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods. The matter occurred on a previous date but was not published at the time due to the government shutdown. The press release was posted and made available following the return to normal operations.
